Lina hummed, as she walked along. She had ditched Naga at the vampire's
lair and made a tidy profit in the bargain. She thought about her
'past' adventures.

'Sirine was next up. I'm not taking that job and be her bodyguard. I
don't want nightmares again.'

Lina came to a fork in the road and stared at the two paths. She
glanced towards the city that was visible following the right fork. She
shook her head and took the left fork.

'Would have been nice to sleep in a warm bed tonight, but Sirine is in
that town. I wonder where this road goes.'

Lina stopped for a moment, closed her eyes, and bowed her head.

As a single tear fell, Lina whispered, "Gourry."

Wiping her eyes, she straightened up and ran down the left path. After
a while, Lina hunted for a place to camp. Before she did so, she
spotted a group of men laughing and carrying on. She saw that they were
carrying chests of gold. Lina kept quiet, as she trailed the group to a
remote fortress.

'At least blowing up this bandit gang will take my mind off of never
seeing Gourry again. The bandits seem to be a bit bolder this time. I
wonder why. Oh well.'

Lina waited a few moments before making her move. She closed her eyes
and concentrated.

"Gathered fire which sears hotter than a volcano. Shatter the wind
with your inferno might. Blast Bomb!"

A dozen balls of fire appeared around the fortress and hovered for a
few seconds. The bandits on watch saw the bits of light and started
laughing. That lasted until each of the balls exploded with the force
of a Burst Flare. The battlements of the fortress were blasted away.
The outer walls were scorched and cracked with gaping holes blasted
through them.

"I hope you like that display of power," Lina said, as she casually
walked into the remains of the fortress and stared at the remaining able
bodied bandits.

Lina placed her hand on the Blast Blade and stared at the bandits.

The bandit leader yelled, "Who are you?"

Lina smirked and replied, "It might be presumptuous of me to say it,
but I'm the beautiful, young, talented sorceress: Lina Inverse!"

"The walking flat-chested arrogance?!" The bandit-leader yelled. "Go
home and play with your dolls little girl."

Lina's eyes narrowed and her smile turned to a frown. "You jerk! I
was going to go easy on you, but not now! Mega Brando!"

The explosion from that spell was the start of a long series of pain
inducers, as Lina just kept unleashing spell after spell upon the bandit
gang. The explosions, ice blasts, electrical bolts, and other effects
totaled the outer walls and severely damaged the inner keep. A scant
few managed to run for the hills and away from the Bandit Killer.

"Flat-chest? Humph." Lina growled, as she kicked the bandit leader's
body off to one side.

She quickly found the treasure room and saw the loot. Lina quickly
gathered up what looked like the most valuable treasure and left the
burning fortress behind. Lina frowned, as she looked back towards the
fortress.

'I could head back to that city and take the chance that Sirine is
there, or I can keep following this road. That burning fortress might
lead Naga to me if I go back.'

She glanced the way she came and turned her back on it. She walked
away from fortress and continued on her way.

'Naga may or may not find me. This direction leads to the unknown
future. A future without the Dark Lords and... wi... without....'

Lina blinked her eyes and focused on what the future may bring. But
first, she needed to find a secure place to sleep.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Several days later, Lina found herself in a small village at the base
of a mountain. She frowned, as she looked around.

'Doesn't look like there's a magic shop around here. I wonder where I
am? That looks like a decent restaurant.'

Lina walked towards the restaurant and sat down. She quickly ordered
the largest item on their menu. As she ate, she thought about Rezo.

'Somehow, I'm going to have to get the Philosopher's Stone before he
even begins his quest. Zelgadis might not be a chimera yet. I'll have
to warn him.'

Looking around, she spotted a girl she recognized. 'Shia Woo. This
must be her village. That means.... That's right, after the great
tailor battle, I wiped out that bandit gang. This town is going to be
destroyed soon by Galdin and his followers, leaving Shia the only
survivor.'

Lina debated her decisions. Sighing, she finished her meal and found
an inn to stay at for a few nights. Going to her room, she took out the
Crystal Knowledge Sphere. Lina put the sheathed Blast Bade on her bed
and drew upon the sphere's contained knowledge and power. The sword and
scabbard glowed and rose a few inches off the bed. Soon, the light
faded and the sword sank back to the bed. Lina put the sphere down and
picked up the scabbard with her left hand. She held her right hand out
to her side and muttered something. The sword leapt from its hilt and
into Lina's waiting hand. Lina's hand closed about the hilt of the
sword. She winced a bit and shook her hand.

'That stung. I'll have to get used to that. Now, I can call my sword
to me while I'm wearing the scabbard. I guess I should get that fire
and wind shamanism spell finished. Maybe add an attack function to the
sphere in case my magic isn't up to my usual standards. Or
hopefully,....'

Lina sat down on the bed and started preparing for the upcoming fight.
While doing so, she went through her treasure and sorted it out. Lina
grimaced, as she put aside some jewelry.

'Anytime I come across an orihalcum statue, I'll have to cut it apart
to see if it's the one with the Philosopher's Stone in it.'

After dealing with the treasure, Lina picked up her sphere and held it
in both hands. The sphere flashed purple, as Lina accessed a different
part of the sphere. Inside Lina's mind, Lina looked around and nodded.

"Just like the Clair Bible. Now then...."

"What is it that you seek?" a female voice calmly echoed from the
emptiness.

Lina took a breath and asked, "How do I kill Shabranigdo without
killing Rezo?"

"That information is not available."

"HUH?!" Lina's mouth dropped in shock. "You have the combined
knowledge of the four worlds, and you tell me that information is not
available! Why?!"

"Like the Clair Bible, the ability to read minds is not part of this
sphere, nor is the ability to predict future events. Copying the Book
of Time Sorcery only allowed this sphere to copy knowledge that is in
the Clair Bible or has been written down somewhere, in some form, at
some time in the four worlds. The question you asked, has never been
asked, thus no answer."

Lina remained quiet for a second, before asking her next question.
"How does not having mind-reading limit your powers?"

"As an example: Naga the White Serpent. Her spells are not in the
Claire Bible or this sphere or written down. If she dies, the spells
die with her. Nor can this sphere tell you what someone is thinking,
such as what Hellmaster's plot was the first time around. Your mind is
excluded from this, since you are using this sphere as a diary."

"What can you tell me of the Black Crystal that I don't already know?"
Lina asked, discarding the last part.

"The magic it uses does not respond to spells normally. It is closer
to Gorun Nova in the way it acts to spells. Rune Breaker and Flow Break
will be useless. The ancestors of this village found that out the hard
way."

Lina revised her original question. "Can using Flagoon and the Blessed
Blade on Rezo free the Red Priest from Shabranigdo's influence?"

"Flagoon and the Blessed Blade do eat evil power such as the Zenafar
armor or low level Mazoku. Using the two in tandem might work, but the
only way to find out is to do so."

"Okay," Lina muttered, through gritted teeth. "Gorun Nova? Can I tap
its power and cast the spells that are associated with it, despite it
being a sword at the moment?"

"Information unavailable."

"Can you tell me where Bodigar is?" Lina asked in an exasperated voice.

"Buried in the permafrost a league north of Vezendy. After it was
blasted into this world when you sabotaged that spell of Dark Star's by
switching....."

"I know what happened," Lina interrupted. "Did having Bodigar coming
here instead of Galvayra spare the Ancient Dragons? And Valgaav?"

"There is no Valgaav. There is only Val Arnes of the Ancient Dragons.
He is teaching his younger sister this moment, under the watchful gaze
of the Ancient Dragon clan."

A tear ran down Lina's cheek. "At least some good came out of my
pain."

Lina let her mind return to the real world. She held the Crystal
Knowledge Sphere in her right hand and glared at it. She shoved it back
into her cloak, frowning.

"That was almost totally worthless."

Lina sighed and waited.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Two days after Lina came into the village, a group of clay golems
attacked. The villagers summoned Blow Demons to fight against the
golems. Gathering her stuff together, Lina prepared for her leaving by
having her items on her person. Shaking her head, she went outside the
inn and looked at the invading army.

Giving a snort, Lina cast a spell, "Dug Break!"

The clay golems dropped to the ground and Lina smirked.

"Tsk tsk tsk. Just shut out the spirit of Bephimos and the army
collapses."

The girl who Lina identified as Shia Woo came over to Lina.

"You're a sorceress?" Shia asked.

"I'm dressed the part, aren't I?"

Shia asked, "Why are you here?"

"Rest and food. I had a trying week, when I first came here. We
should skip the pleasantries for now. Looks like the second wave is
here."

A large man wearing the skull of a Minotaur as a helmet and dressd in
leather and bone armor glared at Lina. Shia fled behind Lina and shook
nervously.

"Peasant sorceress, leave this village. You are no match for me or my
master."

"Galdin Luda the Dimwit, Voldo?" Lina asked, sarcastically. "A person
who will kill an entire village, just so he can conquer the world."

Voldo stared. "How did you know my name and my master's name?"

'Time to pull a Xellos,' Lina thought, as she held up an index finger.
"Now that is a secret."

Voldo growled. Lina prepared her spells, as she noticed Blow Demons
sneaking up behind Voldo. Voldo used several fireballs to get rid of
the Blow Demons. When the first fireball was cast, Lina threw up a
Balus Wall.

"Enough Voldo," a youthful voice said. "Deal with the villagers. I'll
deal with this upstart peasant."

Lina mumbled, "Shia, get clear. I'm going to try something."

Shia gave a start. "How did you know my name?"

Lina waved her off. "Run. This isn't going to be safe."

Galdin gave an amused snort, as he looked at Lina. "You are quite the
irritant. Dispelling my golems and somehow finding out my plans.
You'll be the first to fall to the rightful ruler of this world."

Ignoring Galdin, Lina finished her spell. "Vice Freeze!"

Reacting faster than Lina expected, Galdin blasted away part of the
attack with a wave of darkness. Voldo wasn't so lucky, he was caught by
the ice version of Burst Flare and frozen solid.

Galdin glared. "Vice Freeze? I'll give you a choice. You can replace
Voldo and join me at my side, or die with this village."

Before anyone could say anything, horrid laughter rang throughout the
village. Lina buried her head in her hands.

"So there you are my petit little apprentice. Did you really think you
could get away from me."

'She found me,' Lina thought to herself with a groan. 'The Dug Break
should have worn off by now.'

Galdin was taken aback. "Wh-who are you?"

"I am Naga the White Serpent and...."

With an irritated look on her face, Lina did not bother waiting to hear
the rest of Naga's speech. She slammed her hands down onto the ground
and cast a spell.

"Veegasgaia!"

Everyone was shocked at the choice of spell. The Earth Shamanisim
spell that creates earthquakes. Naga, villagers, Galdin, and the frozen
form of Voldo fell to the ground. Voldo shattered into tiny shards. As
Lina stood up, she drew the Blast Blade and rammed it into Galdin's
gut. She brought the sword upwards and sliced the necklace that he was
wearing, as the sword tore through Galdin's body. Lina quickly pocketed
the necklace and sheathed her sword.

"That ends that," Lina mumbled.

A roaring sound caught Lina's attention. She looked up at the mountain
and blanched.

"Uh oh," Lina whispered, as she ran out of the village.

Naga and the villagers were right behind her, as the roaring got
worse. Lina didn't bother looking back; she just kept running. The
villagers slowly stopped after about fifteen minutes of running. Naga
glanced back once, and decided to follow Lina's lead. The villagers
looked at the aftereffects of the avalanche that buried their village.

Shia said, "That lunatic! An earthquake at the base of a mounatin?!"

A large man walked up to Shia and put a hand on her shoulder. "Now
daughter, if she wasn't there, we'd probably be dead. We can rebuild,
and this time we'll pay to have some enchant the area around the village
with....what was that spell she used?"

"Dug Break," Shia answered. "I wonder how she knew my name."

Shia's father shook his head and replied, "We'll probably never know.
We don't even know her name. The only name we got was Naga the White
Serpent."
----------------------------------------------------------------------
About four hours of running away, Lina stopped and panted heavily.
Lina glanced backwards and nodded in satisfaction.

"Well they're not following me. That's a good sign."

Lina felt someone grabe her shoulder. She cringed and looked back.

Naga stared down at her. "Veegasgaia? What were you thinking,
apprentice?"

Lina knocked the hand off her shoulder with a furious look on her
face. "I am not your apprentice."

Naga waved her finger in front of Lina's face. "Now now now. You need
someone to teach you."

Lina breathed in and out through clenched teeth. "Why did you decide
on me? Why not someone who is willing to be an apprentice?"

"Because you need the help."

Lina clenched her fists. "There is some things I need to take care
of. Leave me alone!"

"Some treasure that you are hiding from me? Come now, you can tell
me?"

"Dil Brand!"

Lina watched as Naga went up into the air and came back down with a
satisfying thud. She looked at the unconscious form of Naga nad gave a
salute.

"Later Naga," Lina said, as she quickly left the area via Raywing.
'I'll have to warn Zelgadis.'

Lina reached into her cloak and held the Crystal Knowledge Sphere. She
directed a thought at the crystal.

'Is Zelgadis a chimera?'

'No.'

After getting Zel's location, Lina released the sphere and poured on
the speed. 'I'm going to have to hurry and come up with some way to
convince Rezo to use Flagoon.'
