View Full Version : <insert name here>, meet the Clue Stck(tm)

(based of the current Idiot Plot threads of course....)
Perhaps it was an epiphany, perhaps it was a gift of Athena, perhaps
it was merely the collective psychic force of Fandom screaming in
thier heads over the shortsightedness.
All that is known is that it took the form of a dream, and the only
thing that could be recalled of it was a large cudgel with the word
CLUE inscribed clearly upon it being swung directly into their own
face.
*gasp*
Then they woke up.
"<insert oath/deity of choice here>, what have I been THINKING!?!?!"
Yup, one (or more) of the following has been whacked, hard, with the
proverbial Clue Stick. Their ultimate goals and desires are of course
unaltered and they operate only with what data they have or can
readily obtain; but forevermore they shall at least try to think thier
actions through and seek thier goals in a logical, reasonably
far-sighted manner. In addition they gain the perceptiveness of a
slightly above average civilian.
(we are not looking at an INT. boost here, merely WITS/PER. increases)
What changes, and do they fare any better considering the interference
from their enviroment?
Ikari Shinji
Saotome Ranma
Hakubi Ryoko
Tendo Akane
Tsukino Usagi
Shan Pu (see a pattern here?)
Kagurazaka Asuna
Kuno Kodachi
Ushimura Keitaro
Kuonji Ukyo
Ten'ou Haruka and/or Kaiou Michiru
Hibiki Ryoga
Princess Aeka of the Jurai
Kuno Tatewaki
Anyone else you think sorely needs a good whack....
So, is anyone helped... or for that matter hindered... by such abrupt
attacks of common sense?

Well, considering he keeps his ultimate goals and desires unaltered, I
guess that means Ranma goes out on a secret date with all his female
companions, just to make sure they'll stick around and keep his ego well-
massaged for years to come.
And considering Akane doesn't know about P-chan more through willful
ignorance than stupidity, she'll...act more or less the same.
Shampoo will redouble her efforts to kill Akane in such a way that it can't
be traced to her, and maybe succeed.
Kodachi will continue doing exactly what she did before, since there's no
indication she needs or indeed wants a clue.
Ukyou will start trying to scheme a way to get Ranma to live at her place,
reasoning that's half the reason Akane has an advantage over her. She might
realise it's too little, too late, but love trumps common sense pretty much
all the time in the real world, too.
Ryouga will probably be the only one who actually benefits here, since
he'll just take Akari up on her offer and sleep with her, then they'll
raise little piglets together. Of course, that was going to happen anyway.
Kunou...god knows, since he's too wrapped up in his own little world for us
to have a clear idea of his motivations beyond "Akane & the Pigtailed Girl
Love me & I'm So Awesome & I'll Kick Ranma's Ass". Maybe he'll realise all
that is false and kill himself. Or maybe he'll just realise a metal sword
can't be shredded and kill his father.
Really pretty few changes. The Ranma crew, by and large, act pretty
reasonably under the circumstances and world in which they live.

True enough. It's made pretty clear in the "White Lily" storyline that
Kodachi already has a Clue; she just has fun ignoring it.

Others:
Spike Spiegel: He'd realize that there's no point living in the past,
and never go off on that quixotic quest of his at the end of Cowboy
Bebop. OTOH, he'll also realize that his current line of work is too
dangerous, especially for the miserable rate of return, and look for
something safer to do with the rest of his life.
Kyosuke Kasuga, Tenchi Misaki, Akito Tenkawa, or anyone else caught
between two (or more) girls: He'd realize that the longer he takes to
make a choice, the more likely it'll be that he'll lost them both (or
all). It ruins the love triangle, but leads to other possibilities.
C-ko Kotobuki, Excel Excel, or Yao Sakurakouji: Application of the
Clue-By-Four is not recommended in these cases, for the same reason you
don't use the same container to simultaneously store matter and
anti-matter... ^_^

In the end, nothing really changes except that Shinki is even more
miserable. A 14 year old kid can't overcome multiple doomsdday conspiracies.

Ranma makes a vague attempt to make things better but fails because
everybody else in Nermina is still too nuts to act ratinally.

Shinji's problem isn't that he's clueless, it's that he's
got personality defects.
> Saotome Ranma
It would take REPEATED whacks to get his attention, but
afterwards I think... he'd do pretty much the same as
he's doing now.
Only not say or do things that anger Akane as much, or
get him into trouble as often.
The trouble is, his ego would still lead him to race

Except where P-Chan is concerned - and her own feelings -
Akane has a pretty good grasp of what's going on around
her, and doesn't need clues.

hers...

Depends on how early on he gets clued. If early enough, he can change
the entire direction of his world. (to the person who said "A 14 year
old boy can't..." - yes he can, when he has a giant semisentient
biomechanical weapon of vast and unholy power at his command!)
> Saotome Ranma
From what I've seen, despite his basic "well, I'm a teenager, of
COURSE I like lots of girls", Ranma really, truly does care for Akane
over all others. Hit with a powerful Cluebat, he suddenly stops,
realizes that being a jerk will eventually lose him everything, and
then goes and talks things over seriously with Akane. And holds his

Becomes a far more dangerous opponent, because she realizes that
whinging and being lazy has just led to more problems down the line.
She becomes more a Sailor Senshi version of Son Goku than a bubblehead.

I don't think she's unclued as much as unGLUED.

Realizes that (A) he really DOES have a terrible sense of direction
and obtains a personal GPS unit, and (B) that if Akane still puts up
with Ranma she won't have any problem with HIS problem and tells her
the truth. This is the only chance he has with Akane -- confess
everything from his "condition" to his true feelings.
I suspect he'll still lose, alas.

If you have the equivalent of a Nuclear Cluebat, this might work. He
either commits suicide or, if he really goes over the edge, starts to
devise plans to make Ranma PERMANENTLY the Pigtailed Girl, etc.

And holds his
temper.

And Goku isn't a bubblehead? ;p
(All right, so he was dropped on his as a kid and he's mostly lacking
in the social cues department. But still, other than combat he ain't
the brightest bulb around and I suspect that his fighting skills are
partially due to his Saiyajin blood.)

No. He's clueless but not a bubblehead.

He's an idiot-savant in a way, but he's not really stupid. He's just
NOT INTERESTED in the other things.
We did theorize that his lack of interest was due to being dropped on
his head. This leads to a SERIOUS change of Goku's character in
Kathy's fanfic "The Machine" after his brain damage is repaired...

1. Rurouni Kenshin. (a) wakes up and smells the roses re. Kaorin's
feelings instead of bumbling along as his usual naively near-autistic
superman, then (b) enjoys the happy ending of the manga instead of the
stupid, horrible ending of the Seisouhen OVA. But that's not real anyway.
It doesn't exist and I never bought the disc and I never watched it. I'm in
denial.
2. Vash (Trigun). Just grows up! We know he *can* act like an adult; he
just usually can't be bothered. Also quietly decides to start calling
himself Jim.
3. Godai Yuhsaku (Maison Ikkoku). Godai realises that the universe hates
him and locks himself in his room whenever he hears the show's opening theme
music. Otherwise he makes a New Year's Resolution always to tell the
complete truth to everyone in his life at the earliest opportunity. No
matter how much it might hurt at the time, that's nothing compared with the
carnage his attempts to make things better are about to wreak.
4. The Irresponsible Captain Tylor. His behaviour probably wouldn't
change... he's irresponsible, not stupid, but at least he might manage to
go somewhere with his love life. (I still recommend accepting the twins'
offer.)
