The Eternal Lost Lurker
2nd July 2004, 11:00 AM
I said, in my previous post, that I could give a much better treatment of
the "Strange Days" idea posted a short while ago to the list than was
presented by its author.
As I am very bored, and to prove I'm not just blowing smoke, here it is.
I gave myself ten minutes. It is now 4:01.
"Kasumi!"
The eldest Tendou looked up from her cooking. "Yes, what is it?"
"Could you call your sisters into the living room? I have something
important to tell you all!"
"Certainly!" Kasumi turned down the heat under the simmering pot, wiped her
hands on her apron, and walked upstairs. She knocked on Nabiki's bedroom
door. "Nabiki-chan?"
Receiving no response, she softly opened the door and peeked inside. Nabiki
was sound asleep. After a moment's indecision, she crept forward, nudging
her sister gently. "Nabiki-chan, wake up."
An incoherent mumble escaped the younger girl's lips and she rolled over.
"Please, wake up and come downstairs. There's something important you need
to hear." With that, she left to find Akane.
Nabiki sat up groggily, running a hand through her hair. "Something
important? Huh? Kasumi!" With an irritated mutter, she flung herself off the
bed and padded downstairs.
Kasumi found Akane in the dojo, as she expected.
"Akane! Please come to the living room!"
Akane looked up. "It's not dinnertime yet, surely?"
"No, not that. It's just an important announcement."
Akane narrowed her eyes. "What KIND of announcement?"
"I'm not sure. But I don't think it's anything bad. Come on, now."
Akane sighed. "Alright." Towelling her forehead and brushing dust from her
hands, she left the dojo, a gnawing suspicion eating away at the pit of her
stomach.
When the three sisters converged on the living room, they found Ranma
standing beside a girl with dark hair, expressive eyes, and strangely
familiar features.
"Got someone I'd like ya to meet," Ranma said brightly.
Kasumi stared at the girl for a moment. Her eyes widened. "Oh...my."
She fainted dead away.
"Sis?" Nabiki eyed Kasumi, then turned to the girl. "Who...?" She blinked,
then glanced to some of the old photographs lining the walls. Her head
snapped back around to face the girl. "No way..."
Akane looked from Kasumi, to Nabiki, to the girl, to Ranma. "What's going on
here...?"
Kasumi stirred, sat up, and looked at the girl again. "Okaa...san..." She
fainted again.
Akane did a double-take. "M-Mom?"
The girl nodded shyly, cheeks flushing. "Y...yes."
Akane's eyes rolled into the back of her head and she, too, collapsed to the
floor.
Ranma sighed, picked Akane up, and placed her gently on the sofa, then did
the same for Kasumi. "I was afraid this was gonna happen..."
Nabiki's eyes bounced back and forth from Ranma, to the girl who seemed to
be her deceased mother, and back again. "H-how...what...what's going on
here, Saotome?"
Ranma shrugged. "She was dead. I fixed her. No biggie."
"Right." Nabiki, for her part, managed to retain enough of her wits to
stagger over to the couch, where she sat down beside her unconscious
sisters.
THEN she fainted.

It is now 4:13.
So I went over by two minutes.
