Which version of Macross? A VF-19 beats a VF-0...
SDF-1 versus Zeon, anyone? The Minovsky particles would wreak havoc with
the Valkyries' detection systems, but IMHO the Zakus would otherwise fare
poorly against the variable fighters, especially in space. (Slashing
attacks, anyone?)
(Note the addition of RAAFandom.)

Wrong, all Valkyries have always had IR sensors in the side of the nose (and
supposedly in the head unit also). YF-21's activation anyone? There was a
heat vision there.

"The Minovsky particle has near-zero rest mass--though, like any particle,
its mass increases to reflect its potential or kinetic energy--and can carry
either a positive or negative electrical charge. When scattered in open
space or in the air, the repulsive forces between charged Minovsky particles
cause them to spontaneously align into a regular lattice structure called an
I-field. The I-field creates an interference effect, called the Minovsky
effect, that blocks low-frequency electromagnetic waves such as radio and
microwave transmissions--even infrared radiation is affected, though not
blocked entirely."

Thus even the IR sensors would have problems, though they would not be
completely ineffective. (IIRC, in at least one episode of _Victory Gundam_
members of the League Militaire remark that the Minovsky particles are even
interfering with visual light, though this may be the product of the
(admittedly poor) translation.
