A-KON ELECTRONIC PROGRESS REPORT - 1-12-04

There's a few days left in our fantastic 'Win 2 Hotel Nights at A-Kon'
Contest!. Get your Pre-Registration postmarked by January 15th to be
eligible for the drawing! We're Planning some AWESOME things, you WON'T
want to miss!
You have until MIDNIGHT JAN 15 to get your registrations in the mail
(that’s this Thursday). Current pre-reg price is $35. GROUPS (10 or
more members registering at one time-arriving in a single envelope (not
necessarily one check) are now $30 each ($5 off each ticket, equalling a
15% discount). This discount also applies to groups registering online
with a single credit card. We're STILL a good deal! Where else can you
go to have THIS Much FUN for 48.7 cents an hour? (Remember that some of
our stuff starts on that Thursday night!)
So, ALL MEMBERSHIPS received that are postmarked before Jan. 16 will be
added into the SPECIAL DRAWING for 2 FREE NIGHTS in the KON HOTEL during
A-Kon! (so basically your stay at A-Kon is free!) Mail-In, and Online
are both eligible! There will be 2 winners drawn, and we will cut a
check for the equivalent of 2 nights in the A-Kon Hotel plus tax (value:
$250 plus) and send it to the winners! So get moving and GET REGISTERED!

HERE ARE THE KON BASICS:
WHEN: June 4-6, 2004
WHERE: Adams Mark Hotel, Downtown Dallas, 400 Olive St., Dallas TX
PRICES: Hotel Rooms: $125 (plus tax) for 1-4 people (you can get more in
there, just do it quietly!)
PARKING: Hotel garage - $10/day (with in/out privileges). Parking lots
across the street are $5/day. The bus and train drop off across the
street from the hotel's door, very convenient! We're working on
something with local mass transit to see if we can park in the local
park-n-rides and take the busses/trains in (normally they don't like
overnight parking, for security reasons), so parking would be free at
those train/bus stations.
(we can't encourage you enough to book your hotel rooms EARLY so that
the block doesn't get taken by any other people, and you will have a
place to stay on site! Call the Adams Mark at 214-922-8000 to reserve
your room, and mention A-KON to get the rate - you can always cancel
without penalty if you need to (up to 24 hrs. in advance) - better to
have it and not need it, than the other way around! As usual, do NOT
use any national hotel online systems, as they are not tied in with our
room blocks and you will be quoted an incorrect rate (the normal rate
for this hotel is $250 per night, with a 'special' weekend rate of $179
per night, so you see our price is WELL under their normal pricing). If
you do not call the hotel directly you may not get this rate, and you
will not be getting in with the A-Kon block, which is a bad deal for
you, AND for us. Bring friends, and split the room! (4 people in the
room makes it $31.25 per night (plus tax) and with 5 people it's $25 -
not bad, if you think about it!)

NEW EXHIBIT HALL OPENING
We have been able to arrange a new contract with the hotel to get almost
ALL their space – so we are able to expand a bit and open a NEW EXHIBIT
HALL. Tailor made for large displays, we hope to bring new companies to
A-Kon, both in Anime, Gaming and Production, people who have not been
able to bring large displays before due to size constraints. Located on
the 2nd floor in a 25,000 square foot atrium outside the dealers room,
this area is for companies to promote new releases both in games and
anime, do game demos, serve as an industry contact point, do giveaways &
freebie handouts, and show off all those really nice booth designs that
they haven’t been able to bring before, due to lack of space

MOVIE MAGIC at A-KON 15...
Guest Star FORD AUSTIN (Star of Digital Burn: The Series) has offered to
do some great things this A-Kon (his first anime con EVER – he’s One Of
Us, he just hasn’t been exposed to a lot of it...YET...heh heh...).
Certified by the Association of Stage Fighting Directors for
hand-to-hand, rapier & dagger, and quarterstaff, Ford has offered to
teach seminars for stage fighting for our cosplayers (and anybody else
who wants to join in). He has also offered to do a super-spiffy thing
for us – he has offered to blue-screen film a choreographed fight scene
with one person, bring the film with him, film the fans who want to
participate in the ‘OTHER’ side of the battle, and then do movie magic
to merge the films into a completed piece that you can see during the
kon! This is an incredible offer, and a lot of pre-Kon work (he must
really like us!) so this is an opportunity you won’t want to miss!
