ElECTRONIC PROGRESS REPORT A-Kon 15
-----------------------------------
A-Kon 15 is Coming! Check www.a-kon.com for the latest updates!
CALLING ALL A-KON ATTENDEES... if you or someone you know has been to
ALL 15 A-Kons, all the way back to 1990, please contact us and get us
your/their names. We want to acknowledge those people who have seen us
grown through the years, but we don't know who they all are! Please
send them to info@a-kon.com please! Thanks!
----------------
SPECIAL CONTEST - WIN 2 NIGHTS AT A-KON'S HOTEL!
All persons registering for A-Kon membership between Dec. 1 and Jan. 15
will be added into a SPECIAL DRAWING for 2 FREE NIGHTS in the KON HOTEL
during A-Kon! (so basically your stay at A-Kon is free!) Which means
those memberships received in our offices between Dec. 1 (some of which
we already have) and Jan. 15th, from mail-in, or online, are eligible.
There will be 2 winners drawn, and we will cut a check for the
equivalent of 2 nights in the A-Kon Hotel plus tax (value: $250 plus)
and send it to the winners! So get moving and GET REGISTERED! (Note,
Current Membership price is $32, but will raise to $35 as of Jan. 1)
--------------------------
NOTE: We are currently using a PayPal online credit card system until we
get a proper merchant account set up the way we want, that does what we
need it to do (we have weird requirements like group registrations that
tends to break the "normal systems...) GROUPS: We have a 15% discount
for groups of 10 or more! There is a special registration page for
Groups. If you are NOT part of a group, you can still print out the
pre-reg form from the A-Kon website and send a check to make sure you
are pre-registered for the Fabulous A-Kon 15th Anniversary! We have
some AWESOME things planned for A-Kon 15 and you WILL NOT want to miss
them! (some of them we can’t even TALK about yet until negotiations are
complete!)
-----------------------
HERE ARE THE KON BASICS:
WHEN: June 4-6, 2004
WHERE: Adams Mark Hotel, Downtown Dallas, 400 Olive St., Dallas TX
We’re sorry to lose the Hyatt with its convenient airport access and
staff that is ‘used to us’, but we feel the access to mass transit and
HUGE spaces makes up for it. The largest hotels in the area are all
downtown, and this one has some of the best access to mass transit with
the train and the busses dropping off basically at their front door. We
also negotiated a lower rate ($125/night for single/double/triple/quad)
than any other hotel of it’s size, stature and location, which is GREAT!
(we can’t encourage you enough to book EARLY so that the block doesn’t
get taken by any other people, and you will have a place to stay on
site! Call the Adams Mark at 214-922-8000 to reserve your room, and
mention A-KON to get the rate – you can always cancel without penalty if
you need to – better to have it and not need it, than the other way
around! As usual, do NOT use any online systems, as they are not tied
in with our blocks and you will be quoted an incorrect rate (the normal
rate for this hotel is $250 per night, with a ‘special’ weekend rate of
$179 per night, so you see our price is WELL under their normal
pricing). If you do not call the hotel directly you may not get this
rate, and you will not be getting in with the A-Kon block, which is a
bad deal for you, AND for us. Bring friends, and split the room! It’s
easier that way!
Parking at this hotel: It is different than previous years. There is
no free downtown parking. The hotel’s covered garage price is $10 per
day for in/out privileges. Cheaper lots exist around the hotel, across
the street, and one can always park at a Park-N-Ride near a train or bus
station and ride into downtown. (we’re finding out if overnight parking
is allowed at the park’n’ride locations. We’re working on maps and such
to make this as easy as possible, and will negotiate with the local
transit systems to see if we can get rates or exemptions for parking, or
weekend passes or something like that. Stay tuned and watch the website.
The hotel is connected via overhead walkway to Plaza of the Americas, a
facility boasting a food court, several restaurants and other
establishments, including an ice rink (cosplay on ice anyone?). The
hotel itself has a lobby restaurant, a coffee/bagel shop, and will set
up a concession stand for our attendees’ convenience and food accessibility
--------------------
A-KON MUSICAL POLL
We are still conducting our poll to see about the musical guests that
COULD appear at A-Kon. Nothing is set for any of these groups, any of
them are potential A-Kon guests. We are trying to find both the artists
and the styles of music that appeals to OUR fans. Please visit the
A-Kon Bulletin Board from the a-kon.com website, login and vote, OR send
your vote to info@a-kon.com so we know how to proceed. Your input is
very important – please consider your vote carefully and check out the
websites and music of all the different bands if you can, prior to
voting, so you are casting an educated vote. (Unfortunately the websites
are in Japanese, so you might have to do some music surfing from other
sites to find music clips of their stuff) If you have other ideas,
PLEASE write them in and send them as well.
Who would you like to see perform at A-Kon?
1) Camino
You saw them last year shortly after they had formed in Japan. Now
they’re back stronger than ever! They have been working on new projects
and even a video game song in Japan and are ready to shred in the States.
http://www.camino-project.com/
2) Nanase Aikawa
The first lady of rock in Japan. She has provided music to some great
anime shows such as Inu Yasha and Zoids. Her hard rockin guitar sound
and bad girl, prankster attitude make her a true pioneer. (Chairman’s
note: she has multiple albums out, multiple videos and we’ve seen her
stuff – it’s awesome, and her backup band is fun too! She’s also a
manga/anime fan, which is a plus!)
http://www.nanase.gr.jp/
3) Penicillin
One of the original Visual Kei bands who even outsells Dir En Grey and
Malice Mizer in Japan. Their extraordinary visual style combined with
an extreme heavy sound, clearly shows off how tightly knit this band is.
http://www.penicillin.jp/
4) Janne Da Arc
One of the biggest rock bands in Japan today! Their unique dark brooding
sound puts them on the line between Goth and Metal. Masterful musicians
and intense songs combined with a slightly visual style show how they rock!
http://www.janne.co.jp/
5) 03 (pronounced Zero San)
One of the newest up and coming rock bands to break on to the scene in
Japan. 03 pushes the boundary of the current modern hard rock sound.
Keep an eye on this band as they are just starting to blow up.
