I was slightly confused while reading the introduction. Part of it read
like some sort of unionist/socialist rant against American big business; yet
other parts seemed to try to dispel some notion that this is a piece of
right-wing crap written by a pair of extremests just out to bash America.

Anyway, I still have to finish reading it. However, I don't see Americans
getting out of Japan any time soon. That is because the country is almost
totally surrounded by communist regimes (and please don't try and tell me
that Russia is completely democratic, as I'm sure that some portions of the
far eastern regions of the country are still run soviet-style) that America
would like to see taken down. Yes, even if both China and Vietnam are
embracing a Western-style market economy now, the ruling governments are
still kept in power through brutal oppression of opposition and dissadent
groups - and I'm not going to start throwing out all the outragious claims,
or even the proven claims, at the moment to make my case.

But yes, after having lived in the States for a couple of years during high
school, I can see how Americans have become quite arrogant - or appeared to
be - around the world.

My 2 cents worth.

Cool. North Korea brings about the destruction of earth, humanity builds
space colonies, Gundams appear. :D

The bottom line is that the Japanese have counted on us to defend them since
MacArthur was Shogun, and they're not exactly ready (or willing) to amend
their consitution to change the JSDF into a real military force. Besides, we
may
not have long memories, but the Chinese, Koreans and Russians sure do, and
they remember what happened the last time the Japanese had economic
problems at home and a sizable military. It may be one of the few things
that
Beijing, Moscow, Pyongyang and Seoul all agree on....but on the other hand,
unless North Korea cools it, the other three might change their minds about
having some help whipping on the NKs.

Don't you think this is a little rude? I don see why Japan should shut
itself off like it did in the old days, but to print alarmist
anti-American/Occidental literature in an Utena newsgroup is a little bit
stupid, don't you think, Syria?

You know, I've never really liked ReBoot. Maybe it was because of the way I
thought it degenerated into parody and self parody in it's second season...

Other that the limits on operations outside of Japan in what way isn't the
Japanese military a real military? They can call it what they want but the
fact remains Japan has a mechanized army, air force equipped with advanced
combat aircraft, and a hi tech navy that includes the expensive Aegis naval
air defense system.

That would be Gillian von Karmann, mediocre writer and troll who has never
gotten the concept of posting on-topic anywhere. Plonk her of you can,
but watch for morphing. Also has used vonkarmann@yahoo.com and

Off-topic for all the newsgroups, really. I've set followups to
rec.arts.anime.misc, but I'll encourage others to redirect to somewhere
more appropriate.

Babble in all those languages to prove you can be a pseudo-intellectual

She is not willing to play nice. First time I saw her (via
alt.fan.sailor-moon, where she also crossposted), she was openly hostile.
Naturally, the fine folk there didn't like that and, well, returned fire.
She left, oddly enough, and we thought it was the last, though she tried
reporting her story and, surprise, surprise, it got the same response.
Seriously, plonking her is the best thing, though be ready for morphs.

THREAD HIJACK!!

What about the third season? It was the best of all... great plot, better
animation, more complex characterisation. Though personally I do like the
second season also, the third season is unquestionably the best.
Interesting that it's the second season you object to; I've always felt the
first season to be the worst of all. The only reason I got into the show
was because I happened to tune in to an episode mid-third season. It's
awesomeness showed me the error of my ways. :)

Since we are hijacking the thread, (and to get the hijack on topic as
possible) did you know that both Utena and ReBoot referenced the program The
Prisoner? ReBoot was always grabbing references from various sources, of
course, but there's one episode in the third season that's a total tribute
to the Prisoner. Utena's similarites to that show are more fundamental.

I'm not sure she qualifies as a true troll. She's recently been posting
some actual fan fiction to the FFML (and some usenet boards where I'm
not sure that fan fiction is appropriate). So whaddaya get when a "real"

That's the internet address for "localhost" - i.e., the computer that's

your computer is 127.0.0.1 to your internet programs, and so on. (It's

You (in general, not specifically). Every computer using TCP/IP, by convention,
uses 127.0.0.1 as the address for the "loopback" interface, which sends messages

It can also be useful if you have software that consists of a server and
a client that communicate via TCP/IP and you have both pieces on the
same computer. Going through your external IP address would work too--if
you have one, and if the external IP address doesn't change, *and* it's
less efficient.

Chotto matte.... you miss the part where North Korea drops a huge bowl of
Bimbim bab on Austrailia. Very tragic... but also very tasty.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to scrounge up alot of kimchee fast.

Mr. Delahunt is a regular over on rec.arts.anime.misc. I suspect he
redirected followups there because that's the only group of the four
where I've ever seen him post.

Would you mind not crossposting this to r.a.a.fandom, BTW? It's
off-topic for this group. (Followups adjusted to remove r.a.a.fandom
from the list.)

Technically the Japanese Ground Self Defense Force, Japanese Air Self
Defense Force, and Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force. But regardless of
the naming, and the provisions of the postwar Japanese constitution, these
are military forces like those of other states, and given the quality of
equipment they have compare favourably to anyone else in Asia.

The Japanese do buy much of their equipment from the US, and build other
things under licence like the F15J version of the F15 Eagle they fly. The
majority of their ground forces equipment, including their armoured vehicles
like the Type 89 tank, are Japanese designed and produced, which tends to be
rather expensive given that Japanese law makes arms sales all but
impossible. Warships are built in Japanese shipyards and armed with
American made electronics and weapons. The Japanese defense budget has
traditionally hovered around 1% of GDP, and given the size of the Japanese
economy this seemingly low level has allowed the purchase of advanced
weaponry.

We also gave or sold the Isrealies most of their weapons. Doesn't make the
Isrealies any less of a potent ass-whupping force.

Speaking of equipment (and to try and bring it back ontopic) do you know
that the JNDF has a cruiser named 'Haruna'? Yes, as in Haruna-sensei. ^_^

(I found that out while looking through a copy of Jane's Fighting Ships at
the library once.)

Which newsgroup? There are four that are being crossposted and this thread
is off-topic in every single one. And if you tried to report me for this,
then you're "reports" are going to be laughed at by the system admins before
being tossed into the bitbuck.

Save the "reporting to the ISP" for real problems instead of being an
arrogant dickhead over trivial stuff.

Let me also state that I've been around AFSM long enough to know that a
majority of posts there are off topic to begin with. So who appointed you

Excuse me, but I maintain the FAQ for this group. I think I'm in a
better position to know what is and is not on-topic for this group than
you are.

The poster was coming from the alt.fan.sailor-moon group.

Of course none of the afs-m posters support his post though.

This thread is now a meta-thread and, as such, can't really be considered
OT for these groups. It is, however, fairly useless.

All meta-threads are useless.
